«We join everyone missing Ozzy this time around and we send him our best get well wishes,» Airbourne said after being added to the festival. «We’re pulling out all the stops to make this happen, our equipment is being shipped from the UK and USA, we don’t do anything half arsed in Airbourne, if it’s gonna rock, it’s gonna rock to the max.»
Osbourne’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, said the former Black Sabbath frontman was recuperating at home. «Ozzy recently developed pneumonia and has spent some time in hospital,» she said. «Thankfully he is now through the worst part, his doctors have advised that he stay at home to recuperate for a full six weeks with no travel.»
These latest cancellations come after Osbourne pulled out of the UK and European legs of his No More Tours II shows earlier this year, based on doctors orders.
At the time, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said on his website, «it just seems that since October everything I touch has turned to shit», as his battle with the flu was preceded by a thumb infection that also hospitalised him.
«I’m completely devastated for having to postpone,» he said in late January. «Again, I apologise to everyone. God bless. Love you all, Ozzy.»
Along with Airbourne’s inclusion, big attractions at this month’s Download festival include Slayer, Judas Priest, Ghost, Rise Against, the Amity Affliction, Anthrax, Pennywise and Behemoth. downloadfestival.com.au
