ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Toronto Marlies are returning home with a chance to sweep the Rochester Americans.
Jeremy Bracco’s second goal of the game came 2:20 into overtime as Toronto beat Rochester 3-2 to take a 2-0 lead in their American Hockey League best-of-five first-round series.
“We’ve been talking about pushing out and I found a pocket there,” said Bracco. (Chris Mueller) found me and I was able to get (Zach) Redmond to leave his feet and just pull around him and found myself with an empty net.”
The Marlies trailed 2-0 heading into the third period before Chris Mueller and Bracco scored 55 seconds apart to even the score.
Kasimir Kaskisuo was beaten twice in the second period but went on to stop 40-of-42 shots for the win.
“He was excellent again,” said Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe. “It’s not just a couple days here in the playoffs, he’s been good for a long time. Our team has a lot of confidence in him. He’s earned that for how he’s played.
C.J. Smith and Kevin Porter scored for the Americans, who got 20 saves from Scott Wedgewood.
Toronto hosts Game 3 on Wednesday.
