A Queensland man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly hurting a possum and causing it to scream in pain multiple times in a video posted to Snapchat.
Police and the RSPCA began an investigation after a person provided a copy of the video to officers.
The video showed the man squeezing the back of a possum’s neck before putting it onto a concrete barricade in the middle of the street and pushed down heavily around its throat.
He then allegedly threw the possum into the middle of the road.
Following extensive enquiries, including the review of CCTV footage, police determined the incident occurred on February 3 at the intersection of Grey Street and St Georges Terrace.
A 21-year-old Daymar man was arrested on Saturday and was charged with one count of serious animal cruelty.
He was bailed to appear in the St George Magistrates Court on March 12.
