Man injured trying to extinguish suspicious fire

A house fire that left a 50-year-old man in a critical condition at Eastern Heights in Ipswich, about 40 kilometres south-west of Brisbane’s CBD, is being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to the Robertson Road home about 11pm on Friday to find the front porch, patio and fence were on fire.

The blaze was extinguished by firefighters in about 10 minutes.

Firefighters said a man they found upon arrival trying to put out the fire had suffered serious burns.

The man was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition, with critical care and high acuity response paramedics on board.

Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour or may have dashcam footage of the area at the time.

Investigations are continuing.
