Striking Vancouver Art Gallery workers to vote on tentative agreement

The tentative deal, which was reached Sunday with the help of a mediator, comes after eight months of bargaining.

The Vancouver Art Gallery and its 200 unionized have reached a tentative agreement to end a week-long strike on Sunday.

The gallery staff, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 15, are holding a ratification vote today.

The tentative deal, which was reached Sunday with the help of a mediator, comes after eight months of bargaining.

CUPE 15 says details of the agreement will be made available after the tentative contract is ratified.

Outstanding issues included two-tiered working conditions and wages.

The unionize staff have been on strike since Tuesday but the gallery has remained open, operating with a skeleton staff.

On Saturday, ahead of mediation, a rally in support of the striking workers was held outside the gallery. More than 100 union supporters, including members of the B.C. Federation of Labour and the BCGEU, turned up for the demonstration.
