Swimmers take to the ocean for Rottnest Channel Swim challenge

The first finishers have crossed the line at the Rottnest Channel Swim, but the event’s record remains in place with this year’s solo winner coming in bare 12 minutes behind the time set last year.

Sam Sheppard was the first solo male to cross the finish line with a time of 4 hours, 11 minutes and 22 seconds.

Sheppard joined brothers Nic and Will Rollo, who were the first male duo to complete the 19.7-kilometre swim, with a time of 4:03:16.

Last year’s winner Solomon Wright – who set the solo record of 3:59:28 when he took first place in 2018 – came in second this year with a time of 4:21:01, followed closely by Bunbury swimmer Kyle Lee, who crossed at 4:25:11.
